A new piece for mixed ensemble, composed by Peder Simonsen and Jo David Meyer Lysne, focusing on just intonation and mechanical musical and visual instruments.

The visuals were made by Jenny Berger Myhre with analog slide projectors, hand cut slides and rotating prisms attached to mechanical motors. The movements were controlled electronically through a system developed by Thom Johansen at Notam for Jo David Meyer Lysne, who utilised a similar system to control magnets hovering above strings of the grand piano and guitars, allowing different pitches to resonate.

These mechanical instruments, both sonic and visual, will be further developed in a project with Jo David, Jenny and Stein Urheim in November 2026.

Jenny Hval: Classic Objects (2022)

live shows

Live visuals created for the tour of the Classic Objects album in 2022-2023, performed throughout Europe, UK and US.

The visuals were 3D videos made of photogrammetry models, animated in Blender. They were played back live on stage while performing the music.

Many of the models were made of Annie Bielski's artworks, created as dioramas, becoming scenography through the videos.

Some were of Jenny.

Some, like the video to the left, where animations of real-life places. This was made for the song "Buffy", with photogrammetry from a Lisbon cemetary. Some mixed all three into a blend of art-world-scenes.

The Classic Objects band:

Jenny Hval (vocals)

Håvard Volden (bass guitar)

Kyrre Laastad (drums)

Johan Lindvall (keys)

Daniel Meyer Grønvold (guitar)

Jenny Berger Myhre (backing voals, percussion, synth and video)
